Howard Lotsof-Final Essay

Howard Lotsof is a genius! I mean what other person do you know was a heroine addict and after experimenting with Ibogaine, got cured from it after one use and decided to spread his findings among the world. "Howard Lotsof, an American filmmaker and political activist, found that ibogaine was particularly useful in treating opiate addiction, based on his own experience and that of his friends since the early 1960s." (Marlatt 171) For a man to basically stumble onto these findings and use it to help other addicts such as himself is remarkable. Many people are giving him less credit than he deserves. "Ibogaine is not a euphoriant and has not shown itself to have abuse potential." (Lotsof 1) When people hear this they should actually believe the research that Lotsof and his research team have discovered and be extraordinarily proud of the achievements he has made. He is not telling everyone this is a sure fire way to cure yourself. This isn't successful with every patient who uses it but it has helped many people along the way and with more research it will go even further.

Twilight Movie

This last weekend I went to go to Twilight. I am a huge fan of the books and was ecstatic to see it on the big screen. I went to the Thursday night showing at 12:01. I thought it was a let down to be completely honest with you. I have to watch it again because throughout the movie little girls were screaming out things because they are little girls- which bugged me extremely!! I am such a devoted fan and I was surprised at how the movie came out because the previews made it look amazing. Don't get me wrong there were some great moments in the movie but I thought it could of lived up to the book more. This is because the author of the book did NOT write the script which I believe to be the biggest mistake they could have made!! Hopefully for the next book the movie will be more like the book so I can enjoy it just as much.

November

I can't believe it is November already. It seems like this semester is flying by. Last time i checked I was just starting out the year and look- it is almost already over. What I hate about school is that each class thinks that their class is the most important and give you so much work but fail to realize most people are taking 4 or 5 other classes as well. There are never enough hours in the day to complete what you need and want to do. Also, most people have jobs and work 40 hour weeks on top on of the schoolwork. I think Professors should lighten up- ALOT!

PERVERTS!

This past weekend I experienced a lot of things. Pain ( because i bump into things- A LOT!), joy (had a Halloween party which was complete madness), and annoyance. Annoyance because I work at a restaurant and for Halloween we need to dress up every year. Now just because I'm in a costume doesn't mean you have any right to say certain things or act a certain way towards a young women. It isn't OK- EVER!!!- to say to a young woman that they've got really nice pair of legs and then proceed to wink at you. I'm sorry but you could be my dad or possibly grandfather your that old. Where do perverts get off saying these things!!!!!! Then I had to tell him off and put him in his place but then I don't get the tip I deserve at the end of the day. Oh well my pride is worth more then those guys could have given me anyways. Ugh men...

Hunter S. Thompson

I would just like to say that that man is CRAZY! I really enjoyed reading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas for class and want to read the entire book when I have a chance. He was doing all these sorts of drugs and mixing then and then proceeded to drive on them- absurd!I loved how he wasn't sure if he was talking or thinking about how he would have to kill the hitchhiker if it had to come down to it. It is a tragedy that he commited suicide because I'm sure with a mind like that he could come up with a lot of other crazy books for people to read!

Joan Didion

Joan Didion is a very talented writer. The way she describes the littlest things like directions to a street or how the women in California are so generic but gives them this vibrancy. It is nice to see an author who isn't afraid to tell it how it is and doesn't care if the California girls-I mean women- take offense to how they are portrayed as the women who will wind up getting a divorce and to wind up going to beauty school. I like how she's puts in what some people would say as useless information like what Lucille Miller had to do the day her husband died or what time in the day it is while talking to officers or friends. I enjoyed reading her story and would probably enjoy reading other works from her as well.

Ovid

Ovid has a way of writing about love that is really remarkable. He has this guideline that he believes every man should use and if they do, they WILL get the girl they truly love. "You, who for the first time are taking up arms beneath the standard of Venus, find out, in the first place, the woman you are fain to love. Your next task will be to bend her to your will; your third to safeguard that your love shall endure. This is my plan, my syllabus. This is the course my chariot will pursue; such is the goal that it will endeavour to attain." (Ovid 98) He absolutely believes in himself and that his plan of success can not fail. Kudos for him for believing in his work. Some of the ways he said to get the girl were absolutely true and I believe everyone should follow, like not getting completely intoxicated, having a fresh clean cut face, showering and being very clean. But some other things like going after a married woman and befriending her husband so when you finally steal her, he wouldn't have seen it coming. I think that is absolutely ABSURD!!! "Wine fills the heart with thoughts of love and makes it prompt to catch on fire. All troubles vanish, put to flight by copious draughts."(Ovid 104) The way he speaks and uses his words is amazing. I love to see this kind of writing not about sorrow, pain, someone who is dying; instead I like to see those stories about love and how to find that someone and steps of how to attain them. Now I don't believe everything he said will work, but I do have faith in his work to be very useful for a man trying to steal a woman's heart.
